Author FAQ

Have a question not answered below? Feel free to ask me!

Q: Can I get a LOA (letter of agreement) or SOW (statement of work) before we start?

A: Of course! Both of these documents detail the scope of work to be done, the time frame for the work to be completed, and how payments will be handled. Upon request, I use a standard LOA that I then tailor for each of my clients before we start work.

My standard LOA also comes with a confidentiality clause that keeps the manuscript, our communications, and title of your work confidential before and after publication, with the understanding that the title will become public knowledge after publication.

Q: Are you willing to sign a NDA (nondisclosure agreement)?

A: After reviewing the NDA first, the short answer is yes, and I have a confidentially clause in the beginning of my standard LOA (letter of agreement).

I want us to have a great working relationship and fully understand why some authors feel more secure with an NDA in place. My standard LOA keeps the manuscript, our communications, and title of your work confidential before and after publication, with the understanding that the title will become public knowledge after publication.

Q: What file type do you use to edit my work?

A: While I prefer to work with Microsoft Word documents, I’m also happy to work with Google Docs if you prefer.

Any style sheets or editor letters will be emailed to you as a Word document.

Q: How do you calculate the rates for your services?

A: My goal is to provide high quality work at affordable prices. I use the Editorial Freelance Association’s industry suggested rates as a guideline for my prices.

My rates are calculated based on my professional expertise, the type of service, the total word count, complexity, and quality of the writing (a raw first draft will require more work than a second or third draft that has gone through multiple rounds of self-editing).

Although, I’m more than happy to talk through your needs and work with your budget 🙂

Q: How do you handle billing?

A: All invoicing happens after we’ve talked through your needs, set our goals, and agreed on a timeline. Subject to total word count, each project will have an initial, upfront deposit for half of the total estimated price and then a second invoice for the remaining balance once the work is completed and returned.

Q: How do I pay your invoice?

A: My preferred payment method is PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account in order to pay the invoice, though you can certainly use a PayPal account if you already have one.

Q: Can you guarantee my work is error free?

A: All documents are edited to a high standard. I provide you the best possible service to the best of my ability and cannot guarantee that written documents are “perfect” or “without error.” We do not live in a perfect world; Vibrant Editing provides no guarantee that a client’s work will be completely error free.

Thank you for remembering that we are all human.

Q: What time zone are you in?

A: I’m in New Jersey, USA, so I’m in the Easter Time Zone (ET), which is five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -5) during the winter months (referred to as Eastern Standard Time or EST) and 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-4) during the summer months (referred to as Eastern Daylight Time or EDT).
